"The Packet Rats Shanties of Florida"
Even though the Industrial Revolution was under way throughout
the new world, there were still the old merchant ships that traveled from port to port known as Packet ships.
The sailors that manned these vessels were considered nothing
more than laborers and were termed 'Packet Rats'.
They were predominantly Irish.
Join us in song & raise a pint to toast those hard working lads,
& sometimes fair lasses, of a bygone era.

The Packet Rats Shanties sing the songs that sailors, fishermen, and dockworkers sang during the Age of Sail, as well as other work shanties including railroad songs.
Florida work songs are of special interest to us.
